The English Education
The British National Curriculum is organised into distinct Key Stages, each aligned with specific age groups and leading to formal qualifications.
Key Stage 1 (KS1)
Ages: 5-7 years
Year Groups: Year 1 and Year 2
Assessments: Phonics Screening Check (Year 1), National Curriculum Assessments (SATs) in English and Maths (Year 2).
Key Stage 2 (KS2)
Ages: 7-11 years
Year Groups: Year 3 to Year 6
Assessments: National Curriculum Assessments (SATs) in English and Maths (Year 6).
Key Stage 3 (KS3)
Ages: 11-14 years
Year Groups: Year 7 to Year 9
Assessments: Teacher assessments in various subjects, no formal national exams.
Key Stage 4 (KS4)
Ages: 14-16 years
Year Groups: Year 10 and Year 11
Qualifications: General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in various subjects.
The Scottish Education
The Scottish education system is structured into different levels, each corresponding to specific age groups and stages of learning.
First Level
Ages: 5-8 years (Primary 2 to Primary 4)
Focus: Building on early learning in literacy, numeracy, and a broad range of subjects.
Second Level
Ages: 8-12 years (Primary 5 to Primary 7)
Focus: Further development of knowledge and skills across a broad curriculum.
Third and Fourth Levels
